Our story so far…
Hello we are Sammy & Asher
We came into the sanctuary a few months ago now along with two other cats we previously lived with (Apricot and Saffron). We were rescued from a multi cat household as our owner had some mental health problems and required help. None of us were neutered and so this resulted in more breeding. There was 19 of us in total including some young kittens that sadly passed away. They had bad cat flu suspected to be feline herpes virus. We was all rescued by a boarding facility and dog rescue helping the council by taking us in. They got us all neutered and vaccinated and then found cat rescue help for the four of us here at the sanctuary. We are related but it is not known how.
We were originally paired with the girls but they were not the nicest too us and we are such gentle boys towards other cats so we were then paired together as we get on so much better and enjoy each others company. We are often found snuggled in the same bed together. We were both quite nervous when we arrived. Sammy came around quite quickly but I (Asher) am naturally a more nervous boy. We went through some trauma in the home we came from which can explain why I can get a bit worried and flinchy. I need time to adjust to people and situations to feel comfortable but I soon come around for loves as I am such a sweet loving boy. I just want comfort and affection. Sammy is also a very loving friendly boy too. We are also both very playful boys. Sammy gets a bit too interested in some toys which can be a health hazard as he likes to chew on them so this is something our adopters will need to be mindful of!
Due to living in a multi cat home with the poorly kittens it is possible that we are also carriers of the feline herpes virus (common cat flu). Sammy has not shown any symptoms of this but I (Asher) do get a bit of a weepy eye which is most likely due to being a carrier. My carer occasionally bathes my eye but generally this is something I will always have and it will just need monitoring. I have not had any problesm with it at the sanctuary but typically, if the symptoms are mild and there is just clear tearing, no treatment is needed. Symptoms may worsen or infection could occur in times of stress and this is when I will need to see a vet for a check up. When I had my health check at the vets they noticed some mild gingivitis so I will likely need a dental in the near future. Otherwise I am a healthy boy and have no other health concerns. Sammy has no current health concerns.
Home we are looking for…
We are looking for an adult only home with no young children however we could live with a much older sensible child 13+ that will respect our space and the need for a quieter home environment due to our nervous natures.
We could live with other cat friendly cat/s (must be fully vaccinated and neutered- proof will be required).
We can live with a slightly older cat friendly dog that will respect our space. We seem quite brave around calmer dogs so would be okay. We wouldnt like a lively young dog though! (must be fully vaccinated and neutered- proof will be required).
We have always been indoor cats and would be more suited living as indoor cats in our new home as long as we have enough space in a home. We must also have enough human company and enrichment such as toys and cat furniture to keep us occupied. We could alternatively be homed to be allowed safe outdoor access. If so we will need our new home to be well away from any main/busy roads and railway lines for our own safety. We would also need to be kept indoors for at least 8 weeks before being allowed outdoors to allow us time to settle and bond with our new humans.
Home and Road/environmental checks apply.
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
